Donations by text were forefront this holiday season clear across the country. Numbers as yet are not in, but indications are that the ZipGive campaigns are assisting in fulfilling the budgets of many non-profit agencies and organizations in this less than winter feeling season.
In Hamilton Ontario the Salvation Army resorted to using technology this past Christmas in its fundraising campaigns - a virtual kettle allowed for online donations and donors could also use their cellphones to text “Hope 45678” where $5 would be added to their bill to cover the donation. For Edmontonians they were able to text Christmas to 45678 for a $10 donation to the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton.
The inordinately warm weather was thought to have affected shopping habits nearing the Christmas season, yet early indications are that spending increased over the past year. Where spending goes, so do donations and it is hoped that utilization of Donations by Text technology made the difference this giving season that just passed.
