Distribution of Funds from Mobile Donations

Mobile phone users sends a text message to make a $5, $10, $20 or $25 donation to a specific charity. A non-taxable charge is added to the user's mobile phone bill. The funds from the mobile donations are collected from each carrier by the Mobile Giving Foundation (MGF) and then sent to the appropriate charity in approximately 60 to 90 days.

Donation Status

After the platform receives the billing confirmation receipt from the carrier, the transaction is marked as Accepted. This means that the transaction went through without errors and revenues have been collected and recorded by the carrier.

When the transaction call to action keyword has been received by the system, it is marked as Incomplete. The donor has not opted in and billing has not even been requested. This is the initial status of all transactions. This means that a new donation has been initiated by a donor.

Once the donor replies YES to the confirmation message, the transaction is marked as PENDING. The transaction will remain pending until the platform receives a billing receipt from the carrier with either a confirmation or a rejection of the transaction. All transactions stay in pending mode for a few minutes after which it is then updated to final status. In some cases we do not receive failure notifications or delivery receipts. Such transactions will stay in pending mode and payment from the carriers is not confirmed.

If the transaction is declined by the carrier, our platform marks the transaction as Failed. This means that the transaction was rejected and the donor was not billed.

When the initial donation is completed AND accepted, if that donation keyword has subscriptions activated, our platform will automatically send a call to action to the donor to reply YES and subscribe. If the user replies YES, a permanent alert will be created on the our platform and will renew monthly until the user sends STOP on that short-code.

These statuses mean that a donor has opted-in to a subscription or they have then opted-out of such subscription.
